Resting off Vietnam’s southwest coast, Phu Quoc is the country’s largest island, surrounded by warm waters, smaller islets and long stretches of white-sand beach.
Resting in the Gulf of Thailand off southern Vietnam, Phu Quoc is Vietnam’s largest island, surrounded by smaller islets, warm waters and long stretches of beach. It is known for white-sand shores, fresh seafood, traditional fish sauce production and aromatic black pepper, giving the island a story that feels both tropical and deeply local. For incentive groups, Phu Quoc offers a softer, more unexpected side of Vietnam. Days can move from island-hopping and coral reefs to jungle trails, fishing villages, sunset bars, pepper farms and polished beachfront resorts. It is easy to reach by air, rich in natural scenery, and well suited to groups looking for a beach destination with culture, flavour and a sense of discovery.
Best time to Visit
The best time to visit Phu Quoc is from December to March, when the weather is usually sunny, the sea is calmer and outdoor experiences are easier to plan. November to April is the broader recommended group travel window.
Climate: Tropical monsoon climate. Phu Quoc is warm year-round, generally sitting around 25°C to 30°C, with beach weather across much of the year.
Dry Season: The dry season generally runs from November to April. This is the best window for beach days, boat trips, outdoor dining and group activities.
Wet Season: Generally runs from May to October, with July to September usually being the wettest and stormiest period. Programs during this time should include flexible planning and wet-weather alternatives.
CONNECTIVITY
By Air: Phu Quoc is a visa-free destination in Vietnam for international travellers visiting the island for up to 30 days.
This applies when guests fly directly to Phu Quoc from an overseas airport, or transit through another Vietnamese international airport without leaving the transit area.
Phu Quoc International Airport is connected to major Vietnamese cities including Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi and Da Nang.
Domestic airline options usually include Vietnam Airlines, VietJet Air and other regional carriers.
International access is continuing to grow, with direct routes available or developing from key Asian cities such as Seoul, Singapore, Hong Kong and Bangkok.
Phu Quoc is set to host the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week in November 2027.
This is expected to support further destination development, expanded international flight access and the opening of more international five-star hotels.
By Car/Bus/Ferry: Phu Quoc can also be reached by ferry from Rach Gia or Ha Tien on mainland Vietnam. This journey is more suited to local leisure travel than premium international incentive groups.
Travel Tips
For group programs, flying directly into Phu Quoc is the easiest and most efficient option. Programs are best planned around Long Beach, Khem Beach or the southern island experiences to reduce transfer time. If the program includes boat activities, it is best to avoid the stormier July to September period or have strong backup options in place.
