International Snow Sculpture Art Expo

The expo brings snow and culture to life with imaginative, hands-on exhibits that are as artistic as they are entertaining—blending unique installations, interactive activities, and informative displays to create a striking, unforgettable winter landscape.

Ice Engraving Painting with Artist

Explore the captivating art of ice engraving paintings by Harbin artist Zhu Xiaodong. Working in the sharp winter air, Zhu carves detailed ice molds and uses them to make delicate rubbings — roughly 20 prints per mold — each one fading into something wholly unique as the ice slowly melts. The result is a fleeting, painterly record of craftsmanship that highlights Harbin’s cultural roots and its inventive spirit, a quietly mesmerising experience for visitors.

Winter Fishing Ceremony

Before the winter fishing starts, Harbin communities hold simple, heartfelt ceremonies to honor the lake and sky gods. Families give thanks for the harvest the waters provide and ask for blessing over the nets they’ll use. These rites are a reminder of the town’s deep ties to the land and the old customs that still shape daily life.

Ice River Diving

He’s frozen midair, muscles tense, about to smash through the ice and hit the Songhua’s black water — a wild, joyful rite more than a stunt. Folks stand nearby with thermoses and cheers; the jump is as much about community and grit as it is about the cold.

Come back for sunrise: pale light on glassy ice, steam rising where the river breathes, and frost riming the branches. It’s a quiet, otherworldly scene — the kind of morning that makes the photo feel like a living memory.
